A baby shower

This Sunday, I was honored to host a baby shower for my dear friend, Megan, whom I have known since the 6th grade! Since the shower was just going to be her girlfriends from college and/or high school, I decided to have a sit down girls luncheon. I had received a new cookbook for Christmas and was dying to try out some of the recipes in there!

I started off with this invitation that I found on etsy. This is the sample invitation from etsy, NOT the actual one that I sent for Megan!

The best part about planning this shower is that I had everything I needed to pull it all together! I had tons of burlap that I had intended to use at Thanksgiving, so 4 months later, I finally made time to sit down a sew a table runner. Nothing like a party at your house to get you motivated to get things done!

For the record, I didn't make the cake :) The only thing I did here was add the decorations on top.

When I was going through my china cabinet the day of the party, I stumbled upon several silver baby cups that I had collected over the last couple of years. They seemed like the perfect touch for a baby shower!

I am not a baby shower game kind-of-a-person. I did do some research and tried to find a game or two that wasn't awkward and embarrassing and I came up with nothing! I decided to get a children's book and have the guests write their best parenting advice and/or best wishes for the parents-to-be!

Before the guests arrived, Megan and I had arranged to take some maternity pictures. I am always looking for practice (and boy do I need it!) and subjects that take direction! I took a few shots of Megan that I will share later this week as I promised Megan that I wouldn't post anything without her permission. However, I don't think she will mind a little bump picture as a preview!

We had a very nice time and I can't wait to meet this little baby boy!

Snow

When the kids got up from a nap, they came downstairs to a full on snow storm. We quickly got the kids dressed and went outside to get in some sledding before it got dark. Our neighbor from across the street came over and joined us, as well.

I promise Maggie's hand isn't that big. I think those are Jack's gloves!

Ok, Spring, you are free to come now. Playing in the snow is now out of our system and we welcome warm and sunny days!

I never thought I would be so excited to have some snow! This is Jack patiently waiting for his sister to stop being so stubborn and get dressed!!!

Jack's Birthday Invitation

This year, I decided to send photo invitations for Jack's Birthday. A few weeks ago, we had a break in the cold weather so we headed to the park in an effort to get a picture or two of Jack. Of course, whenever you are trying to capture a picture for specific purposes, it puts so much added pressure.

I was pretty pleased that I was able to get a few usable shots the first time out. I promised myself that I would NOT repeat the Christmas card experience.

My intention for the back of the card was to show what Jack is into at this age. I think it will be great to look back on this for years to come!

I still can't believe I am planning a 4 year old birthday party!?

Outdoor play

IMG_1086.jpg

We are so ready for some warm weather! Although, I wouldn't mind a small snow storm sometime in the next couple of weeks. This past weekend, we did bundle up and head outside for a mean game of red-light-green-light.

When the sun was out, it wasn't too bad. However, that sun didn't stay out for extended periods of time.

IMG_1111.jpg I had the best of intentions to provide some posts last week, but the week got away from me. I am looking forward to longer days so that I have more opportunity to take pictures. I pretty much only pick up my camera now on the weekends. This picture was taken on Saturday when we were squeezing in some outdoor time before the bitter cold and wind set in. We also started swimming lessons over the weekend. Both Jack and Maggie are in the same and both of them refused to get into the pool for the first 30 minutes of the class. We have 7 more classes and I am hoping for things to get a little easier. I mean, it just has to! Right?!
